Jose Sison, lawyer and 'Ipaglaban Mo' host, dies at 88

MANILA, Philippines, July 24 ------ Lawyer Jose Sison, known as the host of the 1990s legal drama anthology “Ipaglaban Mo,” has passed away. He was 88.

His son, lawyer Joseph Peter “Jopet” Sison, confirmed his passing in a Facebook post on Thursday, July 23. The younger Sison said that his father peacefully died on the morning of July 23. “This morning, July 23, 2026, our Papa Ping peacefully joined our Creator. We are comforted that he lived a full life as a lawyer, a husband to Josie, a father to his six children, and a grandfather to his sixteen grandchildren. Please keep him in your prayers and remember him with love and fond memories,” Sison wrote.

He also shared the wake and interment details for his father. Wake will be held at the Ascension Chapel, The Immaculate Conception Cathedral of Cubao beginning Friday afternoon, July 24. The interment will be at Heavens Gate 1 Memorial Park, Antipolo City on Tuesday, July 28.

Jose Sison became a fixture on local TV when he hosted the popular legal drama anthology “Kung May Katwiran, Ipaglaban Mo” from 1988 to 2000 and from 2014 to 2020. His son, Jopet, joined him in the show and eventually hosted it from 2014 to 2020. The show was first aired on the now-defunct IBC-13 and it eventually found its home on ABS-CBN.
