September 26 ------ JM Ibarra briefly opened up about his upcoming Cinemalaya full-length entry “Child No. 82,” which talks about a young man dealing with the best and worst sides of being a “nepo baby.”
The full-length entry tells the story of 17-year-old Max, who was rumored to be the illegitimate son of the late action star Maximo “Boy Kana” Maniego Sr. While he believes that he is indeed Boy Kana’s son, he only has until the end of the veteran’s public viewing to convince them that he is indeed the action star’s 82nd child. “It’s [about a] social issue na nakakarelate ang maraming Pilipino patungkol sa family issues and may pahapyaw sa [ongoing controversy] now. Si Max, isa siyang illegitimate son ng isang kilalang individual so technically, isa siyang nepo baby,” Ibarra said during a Star Magic: Spotlight media con.
Ibarra also hinted that his character will find himself in a mental battle of fully subscribing to the reality of being his father’s son or being aware of the bigger picture. “Mabubulag ba siya sa luxury goods na ihahain sa kanya or mamumulat siya sa [realities] niya patungkol sa pagkakilala sa kanyang ama (Will he be blinded by the luxury goods that will be offered to him or will he wake up to his realities related to what his father is known for)?” he said.
The rising star also admitted that he would often be shy on set, especially when working alongside his co-stars Rochelle Pangilinan and Vhong Navarro. But he is grateful to be surrounded by a supportive cast and production team. “Ito ang naging pinakauna kong project as a [solo] actor. Hindi pa ako confident sa knowledge ko sa pag-arte so dumating ako sa set nang [may nararamdamang] pressure and kaba,” he said. “Gina-guide talaga ako nina direk at ng production araw-araw so very grateful ako.”
