Jamie Foxx to play Mike Tyson in upcoming series

MANILA, PHILIPPINES, March 24 ------ The TV series will span the personal and professional life of the legendary boxer. Actor Jamie Foxx is set to play the boxing legend Mike Tyson in a new biographical limited series. Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) is directing and Martin Scorsese (Goodfellas) will be executive producer. Tyson, which was initially set as a biopic, has now been confirmed to hit the small screen as a limited drama series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mike Tyson said that has been wanting to share his story.

"I have been looking to tell my story for quite some time. I look forward to collaborating with Martin, Antoine, Jamie, and the entire creative team to bring audiences a series that not only captures my professional and personal journey but also inspires and entertains.” Tyson said. Hulu announced in February 2021 that it had ordered an 8-episode series about the boxing legend entitled Iron Mike. Tyson was strongly against the Hulu series, calling it "cultural misappropriation" and "tone-deaf" when it was announced. Tyson is not involved in its production.

The boxer said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter that "Hulu's announcement to do an unauthorized miniseries of my life, although unfortunate, isn't surprising." Citing sources, THR said major studios had expressed interest in working with Tyson following the announcement of the unauthorized Hulu series. Mike Tyson made headlines in and out of the ring as one of the best heavyweight boxers of all time.
