January 8 ------ JAMES Yap is set to make his return after signing a one-conference deal with Rain or Shine. The team announced the signing, adding that the Elasto Painters wanted a one-year deal, but Yap chose to sign a shorter deal. Yap is also a concurrent councilor of San Juan City.
With the deal, Yap is slated to suit up for the Elasto Painters in the upcoming Governors’ Cup. He last played for the ballclub during the 2021 Philippine Cup in the Bacolor semi-bubble. Rain or Shine said Yap “will do his best to balance basketball and public service.”
The 40-year-old Yap has been joining Rain or Shine practices since they resumed this year. Even prior to that, the two-time PBA MVP has been working out and occasionally joining the team on the bench. Yap is currently at fourth in the all-time three-points made list with 1,170, a mark that was recently surpassed by Barangay Ginebra veteran LA Tenorio.
