Ivana Alawi and her sense of generosity

October 30 ------ Much has been said and written about Ivana Alawi's acts of random kindness. There’s that one about the actress-vlogger stopping by a fruit stall, buying all the vendor’s fresh fruit, and handing them out to passers-by. Not only do strangers Ivana sees on the streets go home with "pasalubong" for their families, but they also receive crisp bills in P1,000 denomination.

As a token of gratitude for her millions of subscribers, Ivana spent at least P4-5M on 100 iPhone units to be given away — but on one condition. Only those who subscribe to the online gaming app she endorses could qualify. This drew flak from the netizens, most especially irate non-gamers. Not one to budge, Ivana still went ahead with the raffle draw amid public outrage.

The actress' latest beneficiary was Tatay Jesus. She pretended to be a "taong grasa" like the elderly man. She then parted with a large amount of cash that made him more than happy. He thought it was a one-time stroke of luck, but more earthbound blessings began to come his way.

Ivana bought him a piece of land on which he had his modest house built. She also gave the old man extra money with which to grow crops in his backyard as well as tend his livestock. As if this wasn't enough, Tatay Jesus also gets a monthly stipend from Ivana. His siblings were likewise gifted P10,000 cash each.

For all her acts of charity, isn't Ivana reminded of a Biblical passage that one shouldn't let his right hand see what his left hand is doing? Aren't these good deeds more sincere if done in private, let alone undocumented or unpublicized?
