February 14 ------ Valentine’s Day this year, which is practically an invitation to go all out. From packed concerts to fully booked restaurants, surveys and spending trends back it up: Pinoys really do show up for the day of hearts. It’s not hard to expect romance to especially go into overdrive this weekend. Or maybe not? Either way, these celebrities share how they’re choosing to spend their day tomorrow, Feb. 14.
Heart Evangelista
“Ayoko nga mag-party (Feb. 14 is Heart’s birthday). People think that I am, but I’m not a party girl. I’m not somebody you’ll see randomly in a club; this is really just an image, but I’m asleep at 9 p.m. But I know that my team wants to have a dinner celebration for me. I will turn 41. So, magbibihis lang ako, pero ang usapan, ‘wag masyado. Okay lang ako sa bahay lang.
“Same same for Valentine’s Day (plans). For me, I don’t wish for anything. I’m just very grateful for what I have. Kumbaga, sapat na ako. Sa totoo lang, dumating na ako sa point na sapat na sapat lang ako, kung ano man ang meron ako ngayon.”
Sam Verzosa
“Love life? I’m single, but I’m not available. I’m focused on my mission, advocacies, and I have new business ventures, dun ako naka-focus ngayon. Wala (no plans on Valentine’s). Work, family, my kid,s and friends. Yun lang. The usual, nothing special.”
Janine Gutierrez and Jericho Rosales
Janine: “Echo has a movie, ‘The Loved One.’ I’m super looking forward to watching it.”
Jericho: “I’ll try not to promote on that day. Bawal mag-promote. Kailangan mag-promote ako dito (referring to Janine).”
Kylie Padilla
“I won’t refuse flowers if someone sends them, but suitors know that I’m not ready yet. They all know the state that I’m in now. I don’t want a love life muna. I really want to focus on my children first. I need to make it up to my kids (just like the core message in my film ‘Lotto Winner’). “I think puno na rin yung bank ko for love. I think time na para mag-focus. And I’m happy that I’m just focusing on my kids, my work. I’m happy now with my situation.”
Barbie Forteza
“I’ll spend it alone, just like last year. And super-super happy. I’m surrounded by a lot of good friends. As you can see, I’ve gotten diligent about running again because I have a lot of friends who keep asking me to join them. And that brings me so much joy that we’re able to inspire other people to have a healthier lifestyle. “Ah, yes (I’ll be traveling again), but for a bit. I’m gonna attend my friend’s wedding, but I’m gonna come back (right away) because I have work already.”
Albert Martinez
“It’s a working day. Trabaho ko kasi Valentine’s Day. You know, my boss is Coco Martin (in ‘Batang Quiapo’), and he said, trabaho muna tayo ha. “But Valentine’s Day is very important for a partner, for a spouse. Actually, yeah, every day can be Valentine’s Day, but it should be given a special moment. Like for me, during my time (with his late wife Liezl Martinez), I make it a point that yung day (na yun) ‘di ko nakakalimutan. Kasi if nakakalimutan ko ’yon, ‘di ako kakausapin for months hahaha! That’s why never again.”
Kz Tandingan and Tj Monterde
“Hindi pa po namin alam anong mangyayari sa buhay namin in the coming days (after a sold-out four-night concert at the Big Dome). But for sure, we will be resting at that time. A simple dinner would do.
“(On spending Valentine’s together for 10 years now) commitment talaga. Commitment and respect. Hindi kayo papayag hindi siya (the relationship) mag-work. Kahit sobrang iba ninyo, it will work. So, as long as you commit and you respect the person, makakahanap at makakahanap kayo ng paraan. Our mindset always is — if and when there’s a problem — it’s not you versus me, it’s always us versus the problem.”
