MANILA, Philippines, January 16 ------ For Kapuso actor Miguel Tanfelix, solo travel goes beyond a simple break from routine; it is a way to recharge, reflect, and nourish the soul. Following a recent solo journey through South America, with stops in Peru, Brazil, and Argentina, he cited the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu in Peru, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as his favorite destination. “It was a real adventure. Tiring, but for me, traveling nourishes my soul,” Miguel said in an interview during the “FIBERBLAZE Ignites Laguna” event held at Robinsons Galleria South, San Pedro, Laguna.
He began solo backpacking at the age of 18, saying it helped break the monotony of his daily routine. “And for me, it breaks the pattern. Like, for example, if you’re an actor, you’re always in front of the camera, parang hindi ka nahihirapan, and there are times that you’re comfortable at home. For me, it breaks the pattern. So I stay in hostels, commute-commute, and pa-scam ka minsan. Hahaha!”
The GMA Sparkle talent shared with The STAR that his solo backpacking journeys led him to both self-discovery and a deeper understanding of the world. “I also met new friends. Of course, it has to be spontaneous. I stay in hostels, and that’s where I meet many fellow travelers,” he added.
Miguel is one of the endorsers of the fiber internet provider, alongside Ronnie Alonte. FIBERBLAZE managing director Alvin Morelos and general manager Francis Oliva earlier told this paper why they chose Ronnie and Miguel as their brand ambassadors. “For this launch, we want to highlight our two male ambassadors — Ronnie and Miguel,” Alvin shared. “We want na maganda yung pagpasok namin sa Laguna, highlighting them. But to add, we have other brand ambassadors from Cavite. We want Ronnie to highlight (our services) ’cause he’s from Laguna, and Miguel is from Cavite.”
The company was founded in Cavite in 1998 as a cable TV operator. In 2015, it transitioned to a fiber internet provider, expanding its services from Cavite to Laguna. The company aims to extend its reach to Batangas and the entire Luzon in the future. As a gamer, Miguel emphasized the need for a reliable internet connection, a priority he shares with his mother Grace, a cooking content creator who frequently uploads her dishes online. “I play almost every night whenever I have time, and I’ve never experienced lag or disconnections, even if you ask Rayver Cruz, whom I play with regularly,” Miguel shared. “The connection is flawless.”
He also cited the support that he received from his FIBERBLAZE family. “I also need a strong internet connection para makapag-upload si Mommy (Grace),” he furthered. Asked why his mother, known for her signature line “Okay na ’to,” prepares such generous portions of food, Miguel explained, “We really have a big household. There are four of us in the immediate family — my sibling and I, my mom, and dad. And then our neighbors na sila lolo and lola, and then mga ‘angels’ ni Mommy. We all live in a compound together. “And like in typical Filipino culture, my mom cooks just once a day. By evening, yun na rin yung ulam, tapos aabot pa ng kinabukasan ng umaga. Isasangang na lang yung kanin.”
