March 9 ------ “Sisa,” the comeback film of veteran actress Hilda Koronel, is heading to a successful streak after winning the Best Screenplay at the prestigious 46th Fantasporto International Film Festival.
The historical thriller’s milestone was announced by Jun Robles Lana on Instagram on Sunday, March 8, saying its recognition on the global stage is an honor for the cast and production team. “Just got the word: Sisa won Best Screenplay at Fantasporto in Portugal! It’s an honor for our team to see this story recognized on an international stage, but the most meaningful part of the journey is bringing this win back home,” he said.
Lana hoped that viewers would give “Sisa” a chance while it’s still in cinemas. “If you love stories that stick with you, please give Sisa a chance. Let’s show the world that our stories have a home in our own theaters. See you at the movies!” he said. “Sisa” is written, directed, and co-produced by Lana and is set during the Philippine-American War. It tells the story of a mysterious woman named Sisa (Koronel), who intentionally appeared to be mad to infiltrate a barren town in hopes of leading the people to revolt against the Americans.
The Lana-helmed film also stars Eugene Domingo, Jennica Garcia, Tanya Gomez, Kobie Brown, Barbara Miguel, and Romnick Sarmenta. The film was screened from March 4 to 6 at the 46th Fantasporto’s Directors’ Week and Orient Express categories. It premiered at the 29th Tallinn Black Nights Film in November 2025, and hit Philippine cinemas four months later.
