MANILA, Philippines, January 10 ------ The Atlanta Hawks are finally moving on from Trae Young. The Hawks have traded Young to the Washington Wizards for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert, ESPN’s NBA insider Shams Charamia reported.

The 27-year-old Young, the fifth overall pick of the Dallas Mavericks in the 2018 draft before being traded to the Hawks for Luka Doncic, had an eventful stint with Atlanta. Through seven seasons with the team, he averaged 25.3 points, 9.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds a contest while shooting 43.3% from the floor and 35.2% from beyond the arc.

He led the Hawks to three playoff series, including an Eastern Conference Finals trip in 2021. But now, that partnership is over, with Young averaging 19.3 points, 8.9 assists and 1.5 rebounds this season. McCollum, for his part, is a veteran guard who was traded to Washington from New Orleans this season.

The 34-year-old is averaging 18.8 points, 3.6 assists and 3.5 rebounds per contest for the Wizards. Kispert, the 15th overall pick by Washington in the 2021 draft, has 9.2 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists splits. Both the Hawks and the Wizards are struggling in the Eastern Conference, with the former ranked 10th in the standings with a 17-21 record, and the latter at 10-26, good for 14th in the East.
