March 27 ------ Lea Salonga, H.E.R., Liza Soberano, Dolly de Leon, Manny Jacinto, Jo Koy. These and more are just some of the voices featured in DreamWorks animated film “Forgotten Island”, the first film centered around Filipino culture.
In the original animated film, H.E.R. and Soberano star as high school graduates Jo and Raissa. As they prepare to take separate paths in their life, Jo and Raissa accidentally travel to the island of Nakali, a mysterious island populated by Filipino mythical creatures. As they look for a way home, they stumble upon weredog Raww (Dave Franco), and the most feared creature on the island, The Dreaded Manananggal (Lea Salonga)."
The movie's trailer is chock-full of references to Filipino culture, including the aswang, a jeepney with the word "Mabuhay" on the signboard, a bird that looks like the Ibong Adarna, and the portal that looks like the sun on the Philippine flag.
The film's all-star voice cast also includes Jenny Slate, Manny Jacinto, Dolly de Leon, Jo Koy, and Ronny Chieng. "Forgotten Island" is written and directed by Academy Award nominee Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado and is produced by Academy Award nominee Mark Swift, the filmmaking team behind Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. DreamWorks Animation’s "Forgotten Island" is distributed by Universal Pictures. The film will hit Philippine cinemas on September 23.
