February 22 ------ Miss World Philippines Gwendolyne Fourniol is establishing herself as a true Beauty with a Purpose as she debuts her advocacy video on her social media and the Miss World website.
In one of the more recent posts on her Instagram account, Gwendolyne shared a video of her discussing her chosen advocacy -- quality education, which is the United Nation's fourth Sustainable Development Goal. In the video, Gwendolyne shared the story of her mother's experience with the ERDA Foundation, a non-government organization that was founded in 1974 and “envisions a nation where all children and youth have access to quality education and holistic development in a supportive environment for them to have a better life.”
Gwendolyne also stressed in the caption that situations like her mother's happen all over the world, with UNESCO reporting 250 million out-of-school youth worldwide, with 7.9 million children in the Philippines deprived of education. She then called for collective action to address this through “the implementation of appropriate technology, increased investment, and sound policies.” Gwendolyne's advocacy video debuted on the same day of the Miss World opening ceremony, where she caught attention with her eye-catching national costume. In her Instagram post showcasing the costume, she said that it represents the “Filipina's craft spirit of dignity, growth, and joy” and was inspired by authentic Ilonggo textiles.
