Govt releases P2B to aid poor

August 10 ------ THE Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has approved the release of P2 billion for the special allotment release order or SARO of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman said the fund will assist families affected by the national crisis. "Ang pondo ng taumbayan, dapat pong mapakinabangan din ng taumbayan lalo na sa oras ng peligro," Pangandaman said in a statement. "The release of this fund is a big help to our kababayan who are caught in difficult situations," she added.

The DSWD's Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) is part of the agency's Protective Services for Individuals and Families in Difficult Circumstances program. The AICS is an integrated program that offers financial aid for travel, health care, funerals, meals and support services. As of June 30, 2022, the program has assisted up to 1.5 million, exceeding the 1.4 million annual target.

In 2022, 642,348 individuals are still expected to need assistance. Pangandaman underscored the government's priority in helping the vulnerable and disadvantaged sectors.
