Gov't increases student discount on LRT, MRT to 50 percent

MANILA, June 20 ------ The Department of Transportation has announced a 50% fare discount for students using the LRT-1, LRT-2 and MRT-3. Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said students only need to present a valid ID or proof of enrollment at the ticket counter to avail of the discount. Students taking their masters and those in law school can also avail of the discount.

“Magdadagdag tayo ng discount for all students using LRT-1, LRT-2 and MRT-3. ‘Yung dating 20 percent discount lang sa estudyante ay inutos ng ating Pangulo na gaming 50 percent,” he told reporters. “Starting today, 50 percent na ang discount ng ating mga estudyante. Tuloy-tuloy na ito.” he added.

The 50 percent discount applies to single-journey tickets for now. Dizon said the increased student discount will be a big help to students and their families.
