GMA Network mobilizes Kapuso talents in the continuing fight vs online piracy




December 19 ------ Leading broadcast media company GMA Network, in its commitment to continue protecting intellectual property rights in the broadcast and content creation industry, mobilizes its roster of homegrown Kapuso talents in the anti-piracy campaign “Stream Responsibly. Fight Piracy.”  

  

The latest to join the said campaign is no less than Primetime Action Hero Ruru Madrid. Proving that he fights crime not just on TV but also in real life, the “Black Rider” star is GMA Network’s latest Kapuso IP (Intellectual Property) ambassador in the fight against online piracy.  

  

Other Kapuso celebrities set to contribute their voices to GMA Network’s anti-piracy campaign are the lead stars of GMA Afternoon Prime’s “Stolen Life.” In an upcoming video, award-winning actor Gabby Concepcion, high-caliber actress Beauty Gonzalez, and bankable leading lady Carla Abellana encourage audiences to stream only from legitimate platforms and sites. “Stream Responsibly. Fight Piracy.” The line-up includes Miguel Tanfelix, Ysabel Ortega, Radson Flores, Matt Lozano, and Rafael Landicho, and Kapuso Primetime Princess Barbie Forteza.  

  

These ongoing efforts are part of GMA’s proactive stance and dedication to safeguarding intellectual property rights. In a presentation at the “International Forum on Copyright Enforcement” on Nov. 16, GMA International (GMAI) First Vice President and Head of Operations Joseph T. Francia gave the audience a peek into how the Network shapes their initiatives. Speaking at one of the crucial discussions of the event, Francia pointed out the importance of impactful consumer messaging. “Our millions of viewers are our key stakeholders in this fight against piracy,” he said. To amplify these campaigns, he emphasized that “Anti-piracy concepts should be translated into words that our audience can understand and appreciate.” 

  

GMA has more plans and ideas in the pipeline and continues to combat digital piracy by educating its employees, mobilizing and activating homegrown Kapuso artists and talents, and collaborating with partners in the industry. Taking part in the “International Forum on Copyright Enforcement” event as well was GMA Network Assistant Vice President, Litigation & Special Projects, Legal Affairs Atty. Jose Vener Ibarra. He was a panelist in “Forging Collaborations Among Rights Holders, Intermediaries, and Government to Tackle IP Crimes” on November 14. GMA Network, represented by Francia, also participated in IPOPHL’s (Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines) launch of the first “Voluntary Site Blocking Mechanism” in Asia on Nov. 16. The “International Forum on Copyright Enforcement” was organized by the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) and the Korea Copyright Protection Agency (KCOPA).
