Gilas women improve to No. 30 in world rankings

MANILA, Philippines, March 29 ------ Following a historic win in the FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament, the Philippines rose by nine rungs in the women’s world rankings.


FIBA released the updated world rankings following the conclusion of the qualifiers. Gilas women is now ranked 30th in the world, up from 39th in the August 2025 rankings. The Filipina dribblers won a game against Colombia in the tournament, 74-59, to finish off their debut stint in the qualifying tournament.


The squad finished fifth in the France qualifiers. The United States continues to be the top women’s basketball team in the world, followed by France. Australia, China and Belgium complete the top five. Spain, Canada, Nigeria, Brazil and Japan round up the top 10.


The Philippines is the top Southeast Asian basketball team. It is ranked sixth in Asia, behind Australia, China, Japan, Korea (World No. 15) and New Zealand (World No. 21).
