August 10 ------ GILAS Pilipinas Women dropped their final game in the 42nd William Jones Cup at the hands of Japan, 95-88, on Wednesday at the Taipei Peace Basketball Hall.
The Filipinas entered the final quarter holding a 69-65 advantage but couldn't hold on as Japan outscored them, 30-19, in the final canto. That left Gilas with only a single win to show against Iran in five games as it shifts focus to its campaign in the Asian Games in Hangzhou next month.
Takanohashi Kimika led the onslaught against Gilas with 32 points built on eight three-pointers for Japan.
Janine Pontejos finished with 20 markers to lead the Philippines while Jack Animam’s double-double of 19 points and 10 boards went for naught in the losing effort.
