Gilas Women dominate Kazakhstan to open campaign on right note

September 18 ------ Gilas Pilipinas Women opened their 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games campaign on a strong note after dominating Kazakhstan, 86-58 at the Aichi International Arena.

The Filipinas only trailed 0-2 before pulling away by as many as 39 points, with new Gilas reinforcement Elizabeth Means leading the charge with 23 points and four rebounds. Stef Berberabe followed with 11 points, eight assists, and four rebounds, while Jhaz Joson, Kent Pastrana, and Janine Pontejos each scored eight points as the Philippines improved to 1-0 in Group B.

Gilas will return to action on Sunday, September 20, against Hong Kong at 9 a.m., Manila time. On the other hand, Tamara Noiok led Kazakhstan with 11 points and two assists, while Anna Bezgovada had a 10-point, 15-rebound double-double in the loss.
