October 9 ------ The Gilas Pilipinas Girls team saw its World Cup bid end at the hands of China, dropping a 112-49 decision in the FIBA Women’s U18 Asia Cup at the Karisma Arena in Seremban, Malaysia.

Fresh off a stunning 69-64 win over New Zealand to reach the knockout rounds, the Nationals seemed to have lost their steam and struggled against the world No. 18 Chinese. The Filipinas dug themselves a 29-50 hole at the break — a disadvantage that proved to be too much for Gilas to overcome until the final horn.

Grace Marina Curley was the lone bright spot for Gilas, finishing with 17 points while Zaydhen Rosano, who fired 23 points in the game against New Zealand, was limited to just six points. Li Yuanshan and Sun Hanyun were the biggest thorns to the side of Gilas with 21 and 19 points, respectively. With the loss, the Nationals missed on the World Cup spot which will only be earned by the semifinalists of the tournament. Gilas was relegated to the battle for the fifth to sixth spots against Chinese Taipei.
