MANILA, Philippines, January 6 ------ Gerald Anderson asserted that he needs to be the best version of himself before entering a new relationship.

Following his split with ex-girlfriend Julia Barretto last year, the “Rekonek” star said he’s OK being single right now and focused on his career and growth. “It’s been OK. I’m focused right now on my growth as a person and building my career and building sa pagkatao ko because wala naman sigurong perfect person. So being single right now is… I’m taking time talaga to absorb yung pag-aralan kung ano pa ang pwede ko pang i-improve as a person,” the Kapamilya actor told the media during Star Magic’s Spotlight presscon. “Am I looking forward (to another relationship)? That’s why I have to be the best possible person before entering a new relationship,” he added.

When asked to elaborate on areas he still needs to work on, he acknowledged that there are a few, but chose not to disclose them, saying they are too personal. “It’s very personal for me and it’s very important. I can’t really share it, but of course, there are a lot of things that I need to improve on as a person, yung hindi niyo nakikita behind the camera,” he said. “Nobody’s perfect but there’s so much that I need to learn and be a better person. But when I say personal, it doesn’t mean na wala kayong karapatan. I’m saying it’s personal because I’m still fixing it.”

Aside from being an actor-entrepreneur, Gerald made his directorial debut in the recently concluded series “Sins of the Father” and served as a producer of the 2025 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) family drama “Rekonek.” Helmed by Jade Castro, the family drama stars Gerald himself, alongside Bela Padilla, Andrea Brillantes, Charlie Dizon and the Legaspi family (Zoren, Carmina, Mavy and Cassy), among other cast members. “’Rekonek’ is my first producing venture with The Th3rd Floor Studios. It is a Christmas movie. I missed Christmas-themed movies and that’s something I want for our audience,” he shared. “The premise of the story is paano tayong mga Filipino kapag nawalan tayo ng Wi-Fi, 10 days before Christmas.” “Charlie and I bring the love story aspect of the movie. It’s how the internet and social media can affect a modern day relationship,” he continued.

Interestingly, the idea to venture into producing came to him while he was filming the upcoming Netflix series “BuyBust,” during a time when he was stranded without internet access. “There’s no signal and on that day, namatay o nasira yung Starlink (their only source of Wi-Fi). I said, ‘That’s a good concept.’ Nabuo na yung storya, yung pelikula...”

He teased that he has several exciting projects lined up for the new year, including teaming up with Richard Gutierrez for an action-packed ABS-CBN series. “Acting is my No.1 (priority). I ventured into producing because it gives me a different kind of motivation and fulfillment na may nabubuo kang proyekto tapos may mga nakikinabang like my crew, staff. So that’s my goal.” At the Star Magic Christmas 2025, Gerald was named as one of the loyalty awardees, marking two decades with the ABS-CBN’s talent management.
