Gary Valenciano on his 'Pure Energy One Last Time' concert: 'I'm not retiring'

March 5 ------ When Gary Valenciano announced that he was going to have his last big concert this year, some fans were saddened because of the thought that they were not going to see him perform live after this. 

But he clarified that “Pure Energy: One Last Time” is going to be his last show only for big venues. At a press conference held last week, Mr. Pure Energy explained why he decided to bid goodbye to big stages. He related, “You know, I met with my team like this and many of them were saying, 'You cannot call it 'one last time.' I look at them and told them, 'I'm also human. I'm already 59.' “Kunwari, hindi ganyan ang title but the next time I do a concert at the coliseum--any coliseum whether Philippine Arena, [Mall of Asia], or Aranteta--it will be in two years' time. I'll be 62 by then. I don't want people to put their hands together, watching me, and saying, 'Magaling, pero medyo humihina na siya, hingal na hingal na. Hindi, bravo, ang galing.'” 

He went on to differentiate big stages to smaller venues through a performer's point of view. “Ayaw kong umabot ng ganun and my body is feeling that, especially in big stages kasi iba 'yung dynamics. I can do this [does small dance moves] when I'm at the Music Museum or in a school thing or an auditorium of 2,000 people. But when you're in 10,000 people, you have to do this [does big dance moves]. It's not as easy.” Gary also assured fans that his decision to do “Pure Energy: One Last Time” is not about his health condition, which worries some of his fans. “It has nothing to do with my health. My health is good. I'm really [okay, thumbs up]. It's just knowing when it's time to move on,” he said. He also stressed, “I'm not retiring. I'm going to be doing concerts. If let's say Manila Bulletin, Philippine Star, and they invite me to perform, tara! All-out? Tara, let's go! ABS-CBN, GMA, if they invite me, game! But when it's in big venue… Only people who perform in big venues will understand what it takes to do something. “So, I called it 'One Last Time' because I really wanted it to be the last big , solo, hataw na, Gary is going all-out and, again, it has to end here.” 

The 59-year-old OPM icon said it was easy for him to do this because “there's still many things I want to do. This is just a part of it. It's exciting, it's really, really exciting.”
