Filipinas move two places up to No. 44 in Fifa world rankings


August 29 ------ THE Philippines rose to No. 44 in the world rankings following its historic feat in the 2023 Fifa Women’s World Cup in New Zealand. The Filipinas earned 27.92 ranking points to climb two places higher in the latest Fifa listings that was released a few days after the conclusion of the Women’s World Cup.


The country also climbed from eighth to seventh in the Asian Football Confederation, moving past Thailand. The Philippines captured a victory in the Fifa Women’s World Cup, defeating host New Zealand, 1-0, on July 25 at the Wellington Regional Stadium. Overall, the Philippines finished 24th in the tournament, placing better than fellow Asian countries Korea (28th) and Vietnam (32nd).


Sweden dislodged the US at No. 1 following its third-place finish in the World Cup followed by Spain, which took the title with a 1-0 win over England. USA slipped to No. 3 after losing to Sweden in the round-of-16 in a dramatic penalty shootout, while England stayed at fourth.
