'Falcon' to exit PH today

August 1 ------ THE Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Monday that Typhoon Falcon continues to enhance the southwest monsoon but it will likely exit the country today.

The typhoon was packing maximum sustained winds of 165 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 205 kph. It was estimated 1,020 kilometers east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon. In its 5 p.m. advisory, Pagasa said Falcon continues to enhance the southwest monsoon that will bring rain particularly in the western portion of Luzon and Visayas in the next three days. "The enhanced southwest monsoon will bring gusty conditions over areas especially in coastal and upland/mountainous areas exposed to winds," the weather agency said.

"Falcon" is expected to further intensify in the next 12 hours as it heads to Okinawa Islands.
