February 7 ------ Unlike other local stars, Eugene Domingo said she never envisioned building a career in Hollywood, as her artistic aspirations were firmly rooted in the Philippines.

In a recent guest appearance on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” Domingo said pursuing opportunities abroad was never part of her goals, even early in her career. “To be honest, hindi na kasama sa plano ko, even when I was younger, to be in Hollywood or to have a career outside my country. I just really loved theater when I was younger,” she admitted.

Domingo also weighed in on the chances of Filipino films gaining recognition on the global stage, including the Academy Awards. “And kung tayo makakapasok sa Oscars, hindi imposible. Kailangan lang talaga nating ng pera at suporta ng gobyerno,” she explained.

Domingo’s remarks come following the international success of her friend Dolly de Leon and fellow star Ruby Ruiz. De Leon gained worldwide attention for her role in Ruben Östlund’s “Triangle of Sadness,” which earned her Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations for Best Supporting Actress. Ruiz, meanwhile, previously made her Hollywood debut in the Nicole Kidman-starrer series “Expats.” She is set to grace the big screen next in the Hollywood movie “First Light.”

Meanwhile, Domingo recently appeared in the 2025 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry “Unmarry.” She is expected to appear next in the upcoming Jun Robles Lana film “Sisa,” top-billed by Hilda Koronel. Domingo also recently made her musical theater debut in the Philippine staging of “Into the Woods” opposite theater superstar Lea Salonga. Among her most notable works are “Kimmy Dora” and “Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank,” which earned her a Gawad Urian Award for Best Actress in 2012.
