May 28 ------ Russia is on track to generate €20 billion from the sale of energy and raw materials to the EU in 2025. This is more than the amount of military aid provided to Ukraine by Europe, according to a report by the German tabloid Bild.
Russian oil and gas, coal, and Uranium will earn Moscow €233 billion this year to continue financing its war in Ukraine. The largest importers of Russian energy and materials are China, India and Turkey. Last year, Europe spent $26 billion on Russian energy, but has plans to wean off imports from Russia by 2030.
US President Donald Trump had previously criticized the EU for spending more on Russian imports than it has sent to Ukraine. An EU website estimates that the European Union has provided over $158 billion in financial, military, humanitarian, and refugee assistance to Ukraine since the start of the full scale invasion.
The EU still imports nearly a fifth of its energy from Russia, down from 45% before the invasion, according to Euronews. Europe is considering implementing additional sanctions on Russia.
