December 18 ------ The eighth and final CO2 storage tank has been installed on Carbon Destroyer 1, the first dedicated offshore CO2 carrier built in the EU, set to work on the Greensand project in Denmark.
Â
Once operational next year, the vessel will be prepared for its carbon capture and storage (CCS) duties, working on Project Greensand by transporting captured CO2 from the CO2 terminal in Port Esbjerg, creating a virtual pipeline to the offshore storage site, under the seabed at the Nini Field in the North Sea.
Â
The tanks were manufactured by Geldof (Engicon NV) in Belgium and transported to the Netherlands for installation at the Royal Niestern Sander shipyard in the Port of Delfzijl. Over the coming months, the tanks will be connected via piping to enable safe and efficient transfer of liquefied CO2.
Â
Earlier this month, two specially designed suction tanks from Danish supplier Dana-Tank were installed in the cargo hold. The vessel measures 150 meters in length and 16 meters in beam and is based on the EasyMax ship type. With a hold volume exceeding 625,000 cft, the CO2 is designed to carry about 5,000 tons of liquified CO2.
