October 17 ------ Emma Tiglao‘s deep red Ryan Uson number at the Miss Grand International (MGI) preliminary competition is gaining undue attention with pageant observers critiquing its silhouette and overall design. The gown featured wing-like shoulder pads adorned with red and orange beads, a low V neckline with gold trim, a figure-hugging skirt with a high slit, and a flowy sheer overlay.
There appeared to be no sign that Tiglao was uncomfortable wearing Uson’s design when she sashayed onto the MGI stage on Wednesday, Oct. 15, as she competed with 75 other candidates. The Philippine bet was all smiles as she delivered her introductory lines during her spiel.
But while the gown may have its own charm as Tiglao paraded it onstage, it nonetheless expectedly garnered divided reaction from pageant observers and fans on social media, especially as it was being compared to those worn by other candidates. While some praised the red number for its “symbolisms,” red being a lucky color in Thailand, others said it was a letdown from the Filipina’s consistently-styled ensembles during her pre-pageant activities.
Regardless of the gown, luck seemed to be on Tiglao’s side as she was among the beauties who were recognized at the preliminary competition. She won two awards for this round: the Miss Global Beauties Special Award and was part of the three candidates in consideration for the Pageant Insider Choice Award, along with the representative from Thailand and the Czech Republic. Thailand’s Sarunrat Pueakpipat and Indonesia’s Vina Sitorus won the Pageant Insider Choice and Miss Grand Fan Vote awards, respectively.
