Election Day declared special non-working holiday

Metro Manila, May 6 ------ President Rodrigo Duterte has declared May 9, the day of the national and local elections, a special non-working holiday.

Proclamation No. 1357 released on May 5 states that there is a need to declare the holiday to "enable people to properly exercise their right to vote." Special non-working holiday means those who will render work on this day shall be paid additional 30% of their daily rate while those who will not work will have the "no work, no pay" principle applied to them unless a company policy grants payment.
