June 4 ------ EJ Obiena missed another podium in the 2024 Diamond League after finishing seventh among eight competitors in the BAUHAUS-GALAN tournament in Stockholm, Sweden.
The Filipino pole vault champion took two tries to clear 5.70 meters, but bowed out of the contention after failing to vault his way past 5.85m in three attempts. Before that, the 28-year-old bet skipped the opening height before breezing past 5.60m. Hometown bet Mondo Duplantis of Sweden once again topped the tournament after registering 6.00m.
The world record holder tried to clear 6.25m, but failed after three jumps but still emerged as the gold medal winner. The USA duo of Sam Kendricks and KC Lightfoot bagged the silver and bronze medals after finishing at 5.90m and 5.80m, respectively.
Obiena was coming off a second place finish at the Oslo Bislett Games on Friday morning, which saw him break his pole again after suffering the same fate during the Ostrava Golden Spike.
