April 8 ------ Edu Manzano has sparked discussion online after urging Filipinos to travel abroad to better understand the Philippines’ shortcomings, particularly in transportation and tourism costs.

In a recent social media post, Manzano wrote: “All Filipinos should travel outside the Philippines so that you will know that we deserve BETTER.” In the comments section, he added, “It’s cheaper to travel to our Southeast Asian neighbors than it is to fly to Cebu or Davao.” Netizens echoed the actor-host’s sentiments by emphasizing that citizens abroad see how their government uses their taxes well, unlike in the Philippines.

Manzano’s remarks come amid persistent concerns over the high cost of domestic air travel in the Philippines, where flights between local destinations such as Siargao or Cebu City can sometimes exceed fares to nearby Southeast Asian countries like Vietnam or Thailand.

Bianca Gonzalez was one of the celebrities who earlier expressed her disappointment with the high cost of traveling to Siargao, saying it’s one of the reasons why it’s hard to support local tourism.

Actor John Manalo likewise spoke out about what he describes as a lack of vision and originality in Philippine tourism, citing his observations about tourist destinations in the Philippines being “copies” of other places in the world.

Filipino celebrities, including Anne Curtis, have long been lamenting the corrupt system that has been deceiving and making Filipinos suffer for the longest time. The country’s main gateway, Ninoy Aquino International Airport, has frequently been cited for congestion and delays; just recently, a portion of the ceiling at NAIA Terminal 1 collapsed during the Holy Week rush.
