Earth Day 2024: Miss Earth Philippines candidates' tips to be safe amid extreme heat

MANILA, Philippines, April 23 ------ Miss Earth Philippines 2024 candidates gave tips on how people can protect themselves during the extreme heat we’re currently experiencing.

In a recent interview with Philstar.com during their visit at Royale Aesthetics, Cabanatuan's Marinell Salvador gave three tips for people to be safe amid the extreme heat. "First is to wear very comfortable clothes and second is to drink a lot of water to keep yourself hydrated. And the very last but not the very least is to plant trees. If you could contribute and plant one tree, you could save a lot of people and it would benefit our environment, please,” she said. "I really hope that each and every one of us will plant trees so we can contribute," she added.

Bustos, Bulacan's Merry Joy Dayrit said that El Niño is happening because of environmental changes and challenges. “It's somehow related to my advocacy, which is the designing and building green because 50% of our carbon emissions came from the built environment,” she said.  “And I'm really advocating that we have to be responsible when we are building something to always incorporate sustainability with our construction and development because we should always promote sustainability. And as simple as being a responsible consumer of electricity and heat producing products just like carbon-emitting cars, you just have to be responsible for using it,” she added.

Zamboanga's Ansha Jones said it is important to educate people on what’s really happening on the planet. “As an advocate and an environmental ambassadress, aside from taking care of myself, it is also important for me to share awareness with others. We are educating them,” she said. “And I want to share to people the importance of reducing carbon footprint and at the same time, reduce transportation. Because, as we all know, that pollution is one of the reasons or the main causes of our climate change. “That is why we are experiencing this extreme here and at the same time, by planting more trees. Because I know that one tree can help build a more sustainable future for all of the children and for a more sustainable culture to all generations.”

Makati's Sam Samaro advised people to protect themselves by eating healthy. “First thing first, you need to have a healthy diet and a healthy fitness journey. It's very important that you have a healthy body and a healthy mind that can carry you through any weather. And aside of that, we need to address climate change and spread awareness regarding to that,” she said. “So instead of taking a Grab or Angkas, try to have more steps in your day, it's good for your health and can reduce climate change as well, or let's say global warming. Aside from that as well, in addition, stay hydrated,” she added.

Royal Aesthetics owners Arlene Cris Damot and her husband David Jayabalan explained to Philstar.com their move to be the sponsor of Miss Earth 2024. “Royale Aesthetics supports for the cause of Miss Earth which is the care for the environment,” Arlene said. “And of course we are glad to collaborate with Miss Earth because of the collaboration of the environment thing. And also it's about beauty, we also enhance the beauties, so that they can represent and have more confidence in what they do,” David added. With six branches in the country and one in Kuala Lumpur, the company offers laser treatments, face and body countouring, non-surgical enhancement, facials, hair removal, waxing and IV-theraphy drips, to name a few.
