MANILA, Philippines, December 7 ------ The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has postponed to January next year the scheduled impounding of electric bicycles and e-tricycles along national roads.

Multiple public complaints led to the deferment of the ban’s enforcement today, LTO chief Markus Lacanilao said yesterday. An information drive about the prohibition will instead take place today, Lacanilao said. “President Marcos and acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez are aware of your concerns. As a result, there will be no impounding operations for now while we carry out a thorough information drive to give everyone sufficient time to understand and follow the regulations,” Lacanilao said.

The LTO will issue guidelines to clarify where light electric vehicles are allowed and prohibited. Violators will be apprehended starting Jan. 2, 2026. “There will no longer be an extension,” Lacanilao said.
