Dwight Ramos determined to play in all Gilas games in Fiba qualifiers

February 19 ------ DWIGHT Ramos is determined to play all Gilas Pilipinas games in the Fiba Basketball World Cup Asian qualifiers despite a recent injury sustained in the Japan B.League.

Ramos is once again a Gilas shoo-in for the sixth and final window of the Fiba qualifiers, which will enable him toto play in all 12 games of the Asian qualifiers - if ever the only Filipino to do so. “I’m feeling pretty happy,” said Ramos. “The coaches chose me every time so far. So hopefully, I can keep showing them that I can help and hopefully get picked again,” said Ramos.

Ramos arrived from Japan to rejoin Gilas training after recovering from an ankle sprain that forced him to miss 19 games for Levanga Hokkaido as well as the All-Star festivities of the Japan B.League. Ramos said he is unperturbed by the injury. “If I don’t think about it, it’s 100 [percent]. That’s all I need to do,” said Ramos.

Ramos is part of the 24-man pool that is set to face Lebanon on February 24 and Jordan on February 27. He expects both teams to be formidable. “It’s probably the same, to be honest. We know they beat us, Lebanon beat us, so they’re trying to win and we’ll try and get another one over Jordan here, show them our homecourt,” said Ramos.

Aside from competing in all the games of Gilas, Ramos also hopes to get an opportunity to play at the Philippine Arena for the first time. “It should definitely be an experience. My parents, my dad tried to buy tickets. He said it was hard to buy tickets so we already know that games are going to be packed and it’s going to be an experience for everyone. It should be fun,” said Ramos.
