DSWD warns public against fake DWSD, DOLE Facebook pages

May 16 ------ The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has warned the public against two fake Facebook pages purporting to be that of DWSD and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). The DSWD advised the public to check its official website and social media accounts and that of its field offices, and that of the DOLE for official announcements. “Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) would like to inform the said posts from two Facebook pages named “DSWD DOLE Assistance” and “DSWD DOLE Support” are not official Facebook pages of the agency and DOLE,” it said in a Facebook post. “DSWD encourages the public to only look at official announcements or information on DSWD’s official website and social media accounts, DOLE, and DSWD Field Offices,” it added. The department also clarified that it is not asking those who were unable to receive the first tranche of their Social Amelioration Program (SAP) cash subsidy to post their names and residences on its Facebook page. “Just report to your LSWDO (local social welfare and development officer) if you haven’t received a SAP,” it said. On May 2, the DSWD said the supposed “DSWD” Facebook page that is calling on all Filipino citizens who have yet to receive their emergency subsidies to post their family names and respective barangays and cities is “not the official Facebook page of the agency.” The Department made the clarification after the “DSWD” Facebook post went viral on April 29 at 8:54 p.m. with over 10,000 shares and 5,400 reactions. “DSWD encourages the public to only view official announcements or information on DSWD’s official website and social media accounts and field offices,” it wrote in a Facebook post on May 2. The DSWD clarified that it does not ask the names of those who did not receive aid through Facebook. The supposed DSWD Facebook page encouraged those who were not able to receive their SAP cash subsidy to post their family name, street number, barangay, and city of residence. “LAHAT PO NG FILIPINO CITIZEN AY HINIHIKAYAT NA MAG-COMMENT SA POST NA ITO PARA MALAMAN NG PANGULONG DUTERTE AT NI SENATOR BONG GO KUNG ANONG MGA BRGY AT CITY ANG HINDI PA NAKAKATANGGAP NG 5,000 AT 8,000 PESOS,” read the post. The post even cautioned netizens against posting their personal information and contact details, saying that identity thieves might prey on them: “Paalala lang po wag nyo po ilagay ang buong detalye at contact number nyo para hindi kayo maidentify Theft malaman lang natin ang Brgy at City kung saan Malakas ang Korapsyon.” Source: mb.com.ph
