DPWH to open Binondo – Intramuros Bridge on April 5

April 5 ------ After years of construction, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced that it is set to open the Binondo – Intramuros Bridge to the public on Tuesday, April 5. DPWH Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain confirmed the news in a statement on Monday, April 4, saying that “all systems go” for the ceremonial launching of the bridge, which will attract locals and tourists. “With the bridge’s opening, there will be a new and faster connectivity between Binondo and Intramuros which are two of the busiest districts in the City of Manila,” Sadain said. Aside from improving the traffic flow in Metro Manila, DPWH Secretary Roger G. Mercado said that the China-grant bridge under the “Build, Build, Build Program” will cater to over 30,000 motorists daily.

The 680-lineal meter Binondo-Intramuros Bridge involves the construction of a four-lane, 70 meters long, and 21.65 meters wide steel arch bridge connecting Intramuros, Solana Street to Riverside Drive, and Binondo, Rentas Street to Muelle dela Industria. The agency said that it also designed the bridge to withstand climate change with bike lanes for individuals opting for a sustainable or alternative mode of transportation. It added that the built-in protected pedestrian walkways are expected to arrive from Shanghai by May and will be completely installed by June.
