DOH: Over 63 million Pinoys fully vaccinated vs COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines, March 2 ------ One year after the government rolled out the COVID-19 inoculation program, over 63 million Filipinos are now fully vaccinated, the Department of Health (DOH) reported yesterday. Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said more than 63 million Filipinos are now “protected against severe illness caused by COVID-19” since the government started the vaccination program on March 1, 2020. “(Yesterday) we celebrated the success, the one year anniversary of Resbakuna COVID-19 vaccination program. We have gone a long way in just one year,” Vergeire said.

She noted that starting from the health care workers, the inoculation program now includes the most vulnerable sectors and even children as young as five years old. Data showed that over 135 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered nationwide. The DOH said 93.38 percent of frontliners and 92.51 percent of people with comorbidities are fully vaccinated. At least 62.82 percent of senior citizens are protected by the vaccines, the DOH said.

According to Vergeire, 736,880 children aged five to 11 and 9.5 million adolescents aged 12 to 17 have received COVID-19 jabs. “Around 10 million of our citizens have received their booster shots so we are calling on those eligible to get their boosters soon. Our vaccines are proven safe and effective against COVID-19,” she said.
