DMW: 4,000 of 5,200 beneficiaries received Abra quake cash aid

August 15 ------ The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said 4,000 families of overseas Filipino workers who were affected by the magnitude 7 earthquake that hit Abra have already received their cash aid.

At a press conference, DMW Undersecretary for Welfare and Foreign Employment Hans Cacdac said they are targeting to give P3,000 cash aid to around 5,200 beneficiaries. “We hit the 4,000 mark as we speak today. We intend to cover around 5,200. So we are around 1,200 more from our target,” he said.

Cacdac said DMW will go to far-flung and mountainous areas near Kalinga-Apayao to distribute the cash assistance. According to him, the assistance only covers those who are active members of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA). Cacdac said they will look into reports that some beneficiaries were asked for additional documents such as police clearance to claim the cash assistance. Cacdac said they do not require such documents. He said only government issued ID, birth certificate or marriage contract, and authorization letter from the active OWWA member should be presented to claim the cash aid.

Earlier, the DMW said it will provide P20 million worth of support and assistance for families of OFWs who were affected by the earthquake.
