DMW: 3,700 Filipino seafarers exited Strait of Hormuz

MANILA, July 28 ------ Around 3,700 Filipino seafarers have safely exited the Strait of Hormuz as tensions persist in the Middle East, according to the Department of Migrant Workers.

DMW Sec. Leo Cacdac said on Monday that the agency continues to monitor the situation of hostilities in the region. “Dito sa Strait of Hormuz we’ve been monitoring the situation as you know, around 3,700 na naka-exit ng Strait. Resumption ng mga hostilities, palitan ng attacks at putukan. So we are still continually manning the situation,” Cacdac told reporters in an ambush interview.

Meanwhile, around 2,500 Filipino seafarers are still in the Persian Gulf and waiting for an opportunity to leave, Cacdac said. He said the government’s priority is to ensure the remaining seafarers can safely transit the waterway. “Siguraduhin na sa tamang panahon ay maka-exit na sila katulad ng 3,700 na nakapag-exit out of the Strait of Hormuz,” he said.

CACDAC WELCOMES MARCOS’ SONA SUPPORT FOR OFWs

Cacdac said he was pleased that President Bongbong Marcos Jr. recognized the government’s assistance programs for overseas Filipino workers in his fifth State of the Nation Address. “I’m so happy and so proud of our dear President… sinabi niya ang action fund bilang tugon sa OFWs na nangangailangan ng tulong, mga kailangan manumbalik, mga nanumbalik na, at ang nandoon pa,” he said. “Binanggit ng Pangulo ang array of assistance measures, tulong ng basic necessities, financial assistance, repatriation, lahat yan, tinalakay ng Pangulo…. yan ang senyales sa amin sa Department of Migrant Workers, paigtingin pa ang mga programa ng tulong sa ating OFWs,” Cacdac added.
