November 7 ------ Fans may find it surprising that the acclaimed actress Dimples Romana once contemplated a career as a newscaster. As such, her participation in TV5's morning program, "Gud Morning Kapatid," holds a special significance, marking a full-circle moment in her journey.
A proud product of a public school, Romana recalled joining campus journalism competitions when she was still studying. "When I was in elementary, I was in a public school and among the competitions I would join were editorial and news writing. I had a teacher who taught me writing and public speaking and I enjoyed the training. My dream then was to become a newscaster," Romana revealed at her welcoming media conference for the show. "So when I learned that I will be joining News5, I was so excited because I felt like I've come full circle. Somehow me being here is an ode and to honor my teacher Ms. Editha, who taught me everything I needed to know," she added.
The actress and entrepreneur is the latest addition to Gud Morning Kapatid's hosts, Jes Delos Santos, Chiqui Roa-Puno, Justin Quirino and Maoui David. Airing daily at 9 a.m. on TV5, it is quickly becoming every Filipino's all-in-one source for entertainment, information, and inspiration. Romana will bring with her new segments namely, "May Bahay," which is all about home improvement tips on a budget, and "Smart Parenting," which gives practical parenting advice. "My husband and I started from scratch, we were not born with silver spoons in our mouths. I've been talking about our struggles in the beginning but I'm happy that through this new project, I can share that part of my life with the audience and along the way, I hope they can pick up some lessons," Romana elaborated. To clarify, however, Romana will remain an ABS-CBN artist and a Star Magic talent. Her stint in the network is exclusive under News5. "I'm so grateful to our bosses that I was given the permission to do Gud Morning Kapatid."
Meanwhile, even though she is better known as a dramatic actress, Romana is confident she can offer a different kind of entertainment to the audience in this new endeavor. "News is a different kind of arena, it can be scary. But at the same time, I'm very happy because I've always wanted to be on a daily show that talks about issues and the everyday life. I think that's my gift. "As an actress for teleseryes, I'm a storyteller. It's my job to interpret the lives of everyday people who do experience these stories. This time, I think it's just another form of storytelling," Romana explained. Gud Morning Kapatid airs Mondays to Fridays, 9 a.m. on TV5, with live-streaming available via News5Everywhere YouTube channel.
