October 25 ------ Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Assistant Secretary (Asec) Renato Paraiso, guaranteed the safety of online precinct finders for the upcoming 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).
In a press conference, Paraiso emphasized their thorough checks on system integrity and vulnerability spots, assuring that the products they provide to government partners are nearly "perfect." “DICT ensures that whatever systems we put in place to provide with our partner agencies are checked. Whatever product we put forward to our government partners is more or less near perfect,” he said.
Paraiso also assured the public that the recurrence of the 2016 election incident, in which the Commission on Elections (Comelec) website was hacked, would not happen again. “We’re trying to address the challenges as we go. As I said, each time that there are challenges is a learning experience, and we have addressed those challenges," Paraiso said. "We won’t say that it would go on perfectly. But definitely, what happened in 2016, more or less, any replication of that will not happen again,” he added.
Moreover, Paraiso also emphasized the department's readiness to handle any unforeseen challenges as technology evolves rapidly. “We expect the unexpected. That is the attitude of the DICT. We prepare ourselves for any contingencies," he added. Paraiso mentioned that DICT will offer technical aid and backing to Comelec to provide the platform "to ensure compliance with election regulations."
Comelec announced its precinct finder website where voters may now check their assigned polling places for Oct. 30, along with their precinct number at https://precinctfinder.comelec.gov.ph/voter_precinct.
