MANILA, July 10 ------ The fewer than 100 Filipinos residing in Kerrville City are safe following the catastrophic flooding that ripped through Central Texas last week, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed. “Our post has not received any reports of Filipino nationals among the casualties or those adversely affected by the calamity,” DFA Undersecretary Eduardo Jose De Vega said in a radio interview.
Kerrville City in Kerr, Texas, is where the worst devastation occurred since heavy rainfall hit the state on July 2, resulting in deadly flash floods when water levels along the Guadalupe River in the area quickly rose. He said there are fewer than 100 Filipinos living in the flood-ravaged Kerville. “The (Philippine Consulate General in Houston) has reached out to local authorities and leaders of the Philippine-American community in Kerrville and the nearby cities of Austin and San Antonio to monitor developments and to obtain any further information on potentially affected Filipinos,” he added.
The death toll from the devastating flooding has climbed to 109 in six counties, majority were from Kerr, while over 160 remain missing.
