MANILA, April 10 ------ No Filipino was reported hurt in Lebanon as the death toll from Israel's wave of airstrikes in its capital Beirut reached approximately 300, said the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
The barrage had injured 1,200, leaving hospitals to operate at maximum capacity. Citing the latest information from the Lebanese Ministry of Health, the DFA said no foreign nationals were also reported among the casualties. “The Embassy has activated its community monitoring mechanisms through Filipino community leaders and Area Coordinators, who have reported that their respective areas remain safe at this time,” the DFA said. “While many Filipinos are understandably shaken by the developments, no Filipino casualties or injuries have been reported so far. The Embassy continues to request regular updates from community representatives,” it added.
The Philippine Embassy in Lebanon earlier issued a “high alert” security advisory in the country, urging Filipinos to remain vigilant, shelter in place with their employers, limit movement and avoid crowded areas. As the situation in the area evolves, Filipinos were advised to prepare at least three days of basic provisions, and ensure passports and important documents remain accessible.
The advisory also strongly urged Filipinos to avail of the voluntary repatriation program, at government cost, while it remains available. Since Feb. 28, the Embassy has facilitated the repatriation of 56 Filipinos under Crisis Alert Level 3, which remains the highest alert level currently in effect among Philippine posts in the Middle East aside from Baghdad.
The DFA said limited flight availability and high ticket prices remain key challenges for those seeking to leave Lebanon, but government-funded repatriation continues.
