MANILA, August 1 ------ The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Thursday said it was continuously monitoring the situation of Filipinos in multiple countries after a massive earthquake in Russia triggered tsunami warnings across the Pacific Ocean.
In a televised briefing, DFA Assistant Secretary Robert Ferrer said there have been no reports of Filipinos injured or killed following the incident. He, however, urged Filipinos in affected countries to always heed the advisories of Philippine Embassy officials to ensure their safety. “Basically, wala na po iyong danger, pero our DFA is 24/7 namang minamanmanan iyong ating mga Filipinos all over the world because we cover all overseas Filipinos, you know 10 to 12 million of them. Hindi lang iyong OFW kundi lahat ng Filipinos, so mas malaki po iyong hawak ng DFA," he said. "Mayroon po tayong contingency plans at mayroon po tayong hotline at kausap po parati ng mga embassies natin iyong mga Filipino communities,” he added.
