MANILA, Philippines, October 13 ------ The Department of Education (DepEd) has suspended face-to-face classes on Monday and Tuesday (October 13–14) in public schools in the National Capital Region (NCR) due to influenza-like symptoms and to conduct structural integrity checks on buildings affected by the recent earthquake.

In an advisory, DepEd said the suspension aims to “provide time for disinfection and sanitation” in response to the flu-like illness. The agency also said it will conduct building inspections in NCR schools following the recent earthquakes that shook various parts of the country.

During the two-day suspension, schools are directed to implement Alternative Delivery Modalities, using either synchronous or asynchronous learning methods. Meanwhile, private schools are also encouraged to observe and conduct these measures. Earlier, the Marikina City local government unit announced the suspension of classes from Monday to Tuesday due to the influenza-like symptoms.
