BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya , Philippines, June 27 ------ A dengue outbreak has been declared in a barangay in Villaverde town in this province due to a sudden increase in the cases. Data showed that 61 dengue cases have been recorded in the area since the third week of May until yesterday. Mayor Ronelie Valtoribio said the continued increase of dengue cases in several households prompted the local government to declare an outbreak in the hinterland village of Cabuluan.
“The municipal health office together with barangay leaders conducted intensive preventive measures as well as information dissemination to prevent the spread of the disease,” Valtoribio said. She said the sudden increase of dengue cases could be due to heavy rains in the past few weeks.
Barangay chairman Manny Pale said most of the cases, including one of his children, were recorded this month. Valtoribio urged residents to report suspected cases and consult a doctor immediately. The municipal government is monitoring two more barangays, Nagbitin and Sawmill, for a possible outbreak.
