May 10 ------ Businesswoman and podcaster Dani Barretto shared how she feels that her mother, Marjorie Barretto, was the reason she and her siblings have strong and brave personalities. In the recent episode of Kylie Verzosa’s Almost Honest podcast, the celebrity daughter recalled how her mother was able to leave a relationship that wasn’t working for her.
Dani recalled how they witnessed screaming, fighting, and all those back and forth during their childhood, which left a mark on them that remains to this day. “Nasanay kami doon. We saw the yelling, we heard every yelling, the screaming, everything my mom went through. Tumatak sa amin yun di ba? Mga bata kami noon, but that stayed with us,” she recalled. She also saw how Marjorie decided to leave the situation and how glad she was to see how her mother was able to know her worth, which allowed her children to also know what they deserve.
“Because she did that, I feel like that’s why we’re all strong women, eh. I feel like all of us magkakapatid feeling ko kaya matatapang or yung personality namin strong kasi nakita namin sa mom namin that you can leave situations like this,” Dani shared. “You are allowed to leave situations, lalo na if you know you’re abused or being hurt or not valued. Pwede hindi ka trapped. You are allowed kahit very mahirap yung process of leaving or getting out, or you have to start again,” she added.
Dani maintained how “liberating” it felt seeing her mother get out of the relationship and the woman that she became after it. For her, it was the strength of her own mother, which she now tries to replicate to show her daughter what it should be like. “So sabi ko feeling ko kaya kami lahat mga kapatid ko ganito eh–– yung we know what we want,” she maintained.
In the same interview, Dani expressed how close their bond is as they have always communicated with each other. She asserted that her mom has also never intervened with the decisions they make in life. “I really hate it when people say my mom manipulates our lives or she controls the narratives and all of that–– hindi talaga. Kung alam niyo lang,” she ended.
