Curbing prices, hiking salary among concerns PH want addressed by gov't — OCTA

December 10 ------ Curbing prices, raising the minimum salary and making available affordable food hike were among the concerns that Filipinos said they want addressed by government, according to reporters.

The results were based on the survey released by the independent group OCTA research which was conducted in October with 1,200 respondents. Respondents to the survey were asked this question: “Among the following national issues, which in your opinion are the three most important issues which the administration of President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. must act on immediately?” The survey showed that controlling the increase in prices of basic goods and services topped the list.

Based on the latest data of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), inflation surged to 8.0% in November, the fastest since November 2009’s 9.1% and surpassing the 14-year high of 7.7% recorded in October 23-27, 2022. The survey also bared that improving or increasing wages or salaries of workers was also a concern followed by access to affordable food.

Marcos said since the start of his administration, creating jobs for the Filipinos is one of his priorities. He said they are still creating solutions to ease the high prices of goods.

In the same survey, the respondents were also asked: “Among the following personal concerns, please mention up to three concerns you would like to happen soonest in your life.” It showed that to stay healthy and avoid illnesses was the top answer, followed by having a secure and well-paying job or source of income, and to finish schooling or to be able to provide schooling for their children.

Nurse John Ray Penoliar appealed to the government to raise the salaries of medical frontliners to make them stay in the country.

Meanwhile, the October unemployment rate stood at 4.5% from 5% in September and 7.4% in October 2021.
