February 24 ------ Two years after its release, Cup of Joe’s “Multo” continues to break the hearts of listeners, as it became the most-streamed OPM song on Spotify.
Cup of Joe announced the song’s latest feat on Instagram on Friday, Feb. 20, while thanking their dedicated fans (also known as Joewahs) for helping them reach the milestone. “Multo” has garnered over 516 million streams on the music platform, as of this writing. “From our hearts to yours. You carried this song farther than we ever imagined. We hope the ghosts you’re facing turn into healing. Salamat, Joewahs!” the post read.
Notable for its vivid portrayal of loss and longing, “Multo” became a hit among fans and casual listeners alike, and also became the defining track that propelled the five-piece band to superstardom.
Some of its most piercing lyrics include “Hindi na makalaya / Dinadalaw mo ko bawat gabi / Wala nang nakikita / Haplos mo’y ramdam pa rin sa dilim” and “Pasindi na ng ilaw / Minumulto na ko ng damdamin ko, ng damdamin ko / Hindi mo ba ako lilisanin?”
“Multo” was a recipient of several plums in the past year, such as Song of the Year from the inaugural Filipino Music Awards and Wishclusive Rock/Alternative Song of the Year. It was also chosen as the theme song for the 2026 film “The Loved One” and is often used as background music for several fan edits on social media.
