MANILA, October 29 ------ Several Chinese vessels were spotted again inside the Philippines’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) during a maritime domain awareness flight conducted by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Tuesday morning, October 28. The PCG was conducting a regular monitoring operation over the West Philippine Sea when it sighted China Coast Guard vessel 3316 about 59 nautical miles west of Iba, Zambales.

A People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLA-N) warship bearing bow number 575, along with another unidentified Chinese naval vessel was also observed. PCG spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea, Commodore Jay Tarriela, said the level of Chinese presence in the area remains the same. “If you are going to ask me if they have increased their level of presence, I would say it’s very much the same. The only instance na masasabi nating tumaas talaga significantly ‘yong China Coast Guard and PLA-Navy warship is whenever they are also monitoring a high number of Filipino fishing vessels that are supported by BFAR and even the Philippine Coast Guard,” Tarriela said.
