August 11 ------ CHERY Tiggo is through to the 2025 PVL on Tour semifinals, ending Nxled’s dream run in a 25-17, 25-15, 25-20 quarterfinals at the Philsports Arena. The Crossovers snapped a two-conference semis drought to enter the penultimate playoff round for only the fourth time in franchise history. They have also secured the third out of four spots for local teams in the Invitational Conference later this month.
Next on their tracks is a streaking Cignal side that has won five of its last six preseason matches, including a straight-sets beating of back-to-back podium finisher Akari to reach the Final Four. That one HD Spikers loss, however, came at the hands of Chery Tiggo in the final weekend of pool play three weeks ago in Passi City, Iloilo.
Cess Robles led four Crossovers in double figures with 12 points and four receptions while Ara Galang added 11 markers and eight digs. Rookie winger Renee Penafiel also came out big with 11 points. It was a one-sided affair off the bat in the Crossovers' favor, having led by as much as 12 in the second frame and pulling away with an eight-point cushion in Set 3.
A late Nxled run trimmed Chery Tiggo's lead multiple times to within four points, only to be negated by Robles and Galang's finishing blows along with its rookie hitter. "Yun yung laging nire-remind kasi that’s character-building eh. Yun yung kailangan talaga namin, especially nabanggit niyo nga na wala kaming go-to guy at talagang fairly distributed yung bola," said Chery Tiggo head coach Norman Miguel. "Sa ensayo naman kasi, kapag kunyari di ka nag-ensayo,the following day, hindi ka pa ready. Kung sino nag-replace sayo, nagkakaroon ng competition pero healthily," he added.
