December 3 ------ CHERY Tiggo is finalizing plans to leave the PVL. The country’s first pro volleyball champions have hit a dead end in their four-year PVL journey, following a string of lackluster campaigns since lifting the league title in 2021.

Twice Philippine Superliga (PSL) champions as Foton, that same golden touch simply didn’t carry over after their maiden pro crown. Bar a runner-up finish in the 2025 PVL on Tour, the Crossovers never reached the finals again and finished fourth four times, fifth twice, sixth once, eighth twice, and, most recently, a franchise-worst 10th place in the Reinforced Conference with just two wins in eight games.

Players were informed of management’s difficult decision on Monday morning, though the league has yet to receive formal communication. PVL control committee chairman Sherwin Malonzo told SPIN.ph that they will wait for official correspondence before taking further action. “Wala pang [word from Chery Tiggo],” Malonzo said, adding that the league also plans to hold talks with Chery Tiggo owner Rommel Sytin.

Should the team push through with the plan, all its players will again be available for the taking, similar to what happened with Ara Galang and captain Aby Maraño two years ago when F2 Logistics went through the exact same situation, also in December, becoming the sixth PVL team to effectively disband and cease league operations.

As far as the league is concerned, the immediate move is to avoid rushing to find a replacement for the 12th team slot ahead of the All-Filipino Conference starting January 31, 2026. “Ang recommendation ng most members ng control committee: 11 teams muna since wala pa namang advise from Chery [Tiggo],” he said.

The Crossovers have also made it official on their Instagram page, a day after their Facebook page was deactivated. “With heavy hearts, we announce the closing of the Chery Tiggo EV Crossovers’ chapter after 11 unforgettable years in professional volleyball,” the statement wrote. “From our beginnings as the Foton Tornadoes to our journey as the Chery Tiggo EV Crossovers, we celebrate the milestones: the championships, the talent we developed and representing the Philippines on the big stage.” it added.
